Karalee, Ipswich Accessibility Upgrade

Published: 28 February 2024 | Source: PNP Group

The Project

This PNP Group project in Karalee, on the western side of Brisbane, tackled a bathroom that no longer worked for a participant with severe mobility challenges. The old layout split the toilet and shower into separate spaces, which made movement harder than it should have been.

The redesign focused on circulation and usability: more open space, better access to the shower, vanity, and toilet areas, and a layout that still felt like a home rather than a clinic. The participant also chose to spend some private funds on higher-end finishes, including gun metal fixtures, a concrete bath, feature tiles, a barn door, and niche storage.

The accessibility details were just as important as the style choices. P4-rated slip-resistant floor tiles, a handheld shower, fluted glass for privacy, and a floor-mounted vanity all helped make the room safer and easier to use.

The Company

PNP Group is known for complex NDIS home modifications across NSW and Queensland. This project is a good example of what happens when a builder understands both the compliance side and the lived reality of the person who will use the room every day.

Why This Matters

Too many accessibility projects focus only on function. This one shows that a compliant bathroom can still have personality, texture, and warmth. For families in Brisbane and Ipswich, that matters because the home still needs to feel like their home after the work is finished.
